It has been a great week. This week I took my Allie for her 6 month well checkup, it is incredible how fast time is going! I shared with the students that KJ had his second dentist appointment this week, compared to our first attempt this trip was a breeze!
In reading this week we have been working on developing our envisioning skills. Envisioning or visualizing is a critical skill that readers use to understand what is happening in the text. Students should be envisioning the setting, characters, events and character’s reactions. We are working on using earlier parts of the text to add in more details and using what we know about the character’s traits and motivations to help develop a complete picture.
In writing we have been working on revising our realistic fiction stories. We have been using different elaboration techniques to develop our stories. Students learned how to explode a moment where they slow the action down and tell what happened bit by bit. We also did an author study where we read books and investigated how author’s write and use elaboration.
In math we have been working on multi-step word problems using what we learned with addition and subtraction. When answering these types of problems students are expected to write a number sentence with a variable, show their work and label the answer. Please see my blog for an example of these problems.
Also, please check my blog frequently as I try to post pictures of the students working. If you are like me, I love to see pictures of my children! I hope you have a great weekend.
