We took data on our shoe sizes to create a line plot.
Dear Fourth Grade Families,
I hope you all have a wonderful winter vacation. I know the students are looking forward to some time off from our daily activities. We have been playing Bananagrams in our room, tournament style! There is a lot of excitement as we try to find the “best of the bunch”. In reading we have switched gears to fiction. We have been studying figurative language. Students are looking for examples of similes, metaphors, idioms, personification and symbolism. After they identify figurative language they need to stop and think. I am prompting them to think, “Why is this important?” or “Why did the author include this?” and “How does this help me understand the big idea or theme?” As writers, students are editing and revising their comparative animal essays. I have told the students over and over that I am extremely proud of their work and the thinking they have done. We have done a lot of work on understand the structure of a main idea paragraph. Students are working on explaining the details of their main idea paragraphs, to avoid list-like writing. In math we are working on multiplying fractions. We are using number lines to help us understand conceptually the process of multiplying fractions. As part of this unit we also are working on interpreting line plots. We made our own line plot in class, check out our blog for a picture of the students. Have a great break! |
