It never ceases to amaze me how hard these students work every day. The expectations are high and they are working hard to meet those goals. They should be very proud of themselves.
Report cards will be coming home next Friday, December 14th.
In math this week we have been working on standard 4.NBT.6. This is multi-digit division standard. Students have been practicing using the area model for division. (Students will learn the long division algorithm in 5th grade.) Students have been working on using the vocabulary word quotient when they have found the answer to the division problem. This is a challenging process and takes a lot of practice, it is exciting to see so much growth in such a short period of time.
We will be having our unit 3 math assessment next Friday, December 14th. Students will be receiving their study guide on Monday and it will be due on Thursday. There will not be math videos next week.
This week in reading we have been focusing on non-fiction reading and developing strategies that readers of that genre use. We have been practicing making connections and previewing the text before we begin reading. Also, we have been learning about the five common text structures that non-fiction authors use. The students have been reading non-fiction text and looking for clue words that help them identify the text structure. We have talked about how identifying the text structure helps us to categorizing the new information we are learning and also gives us a template for note-taking.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
