Dear Fourth Grade Families,
Next week is spring break! I have heard about a lot of the exciting plans for the time off. I hope everyone has a great week.
In reading we have been reviewing many of the skills we have learned as readers of non-fiction text. We have been revisiting author’s purpose and how this impacts our understanding of the text. Students are looking at the key details in the text that help us to understand main idea. We have also been reviewing the different structures of non-fiction text.
In writing students have been writing their opinion essay, “Should there be zoos?” Students chose a side and have been using evidence to support their claim. Students have reviewed the structure of an opinion essay. We also learned new elaboration techniques and craft moves to lift the level our writing.
In math we have been working on our ability to solve complex problems. We developed a problem solving protocol that students can use when they encounter difficult problems. The focus is on reading the problem several times and referring back to the information provided.
Have a wonderful week.
