Dear Fourth Grade Families,
I hope you had a great week! This week I had the opportunity to attend a Professional Development conference presented by the Connecticut Reading Association. We had the pleasure of listening to Peter Johnston speak about how language affects children’s learning. It was a wonderful day of learning and I am excited to bring that information into the classroom.
As readers, students have been working to develop theories about the characters they are encountering. We have been talking about how characters are complex and have more than one trait. Students are looking for evidence to support their thinking from multiple places in the story. I have been working with students to lift the level of their inferential thinking. We have been using these questions to think about the character.
In math we have been reviewing our learning from unit 1. It is great to see all of the skills that students have mastered. In past years I have noticed that subtraction with regrouping and rounding are skills that we need to continue to practice even after the unit is over.
I hope you have a great weekend.
