Hello Families,
Thanks for sending your great kids to school every day!

- Parent-Teacher Conferences are next week on Wednesday and Thursday, which will be early dismissal days. I will send home a paper copy of the schedule in addition to sharing it on my Weebly blog page.
- Our Halloween Party will be after the 2:15 parade on Tuesday, October 31. Please contact Kelly Moyher if you are interested in sending in some goodies for the party. You can reach her at 203-631-0017 or by email at kellyandjohnm@gmail.com .
- This week, fourth graders have been learning strategies to orient themselves to nonfiction texts. Making a connection to the text, surveying the text features, and using text structure have been modeled and practiced with students.
- In science, we are finishing up our ecosystems unit. Students have been observing completed models of both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems in the science room.
- Social studies has provided a good challenge for students researching the northeast region. Students are able to survey nonfiction texts, select a subtopic that interests them, and then use note-taking skills to prepare for mini-essays that they will type in the computer lab. In both reading and social studies, I’m helping students grow as “idea builders”, rather than “fact machines”.
Thanks for sending your great kids to school every day!
