Hello, Families,
This has been a busy and exciting week so far!
Our trip to the capitol was preferred by most students to the previous field trip. I posted a pic on my blog, below. Students visited all three branches of government while work was being done at each branch. The Supreme Court was in session. The Senate and House of Representatives were in session too. The representatives announced our visit and gave us a round of applause as we viewed from the gallery. One group got to see the introductory ceremony and say the Pledge of Allegiance with the Senate. After a discussion of how laws get started, we toured the Capitol building, stopping at various points of interest. Nathan Hale, (my idol) teacher & spy was a favorite.
We are doing an extra SBAC session today from 10:30 - 11:30. Students have been working carefully, and we are proud of them. We want them to feel that they have all of the time that they need to demonstrate their learning, and not to feel rushed. Our remaining SBAC testing days will be tomorrow, May 4 and Next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, May 8-10. Thank you for making sure the students come to school prepared, and please continue to encourage and praise students for growing as learners and respecting themselves by giving wonderful effort during the testing sessions.
On Friday, we will have an assembly to celebrate Burr District Elementary School’s achievement of being the BEST elementary school in CT according to the CT Association of Schools.
On May 22, students will get a visit from an HKMS administrator and guidance counselor to answer questions about their transition to fifth grade.
Finally, we could use some help planning our end of the year picnic. If you are interested, please contact me.
