Hello Families,
We are at an exciting time of the year in fourth grade.
Students are reading nonfiction, and learning to write great summaries of information. Next week, we will focus on how different parts of a nonfiction are important. Also, students will learn about the craft techniques that authors use to write information text. Students are applying what they learned about nonfiction during social studies.
The social studies projects are due on Friday. The research, note taking, drafting, and revising have been done during our social studies class periods. Students have the opportunity to write about eight different main ideas related to the geography of the northeast region of the United States. As of today, students should have completed minimum of 4 completed essay slides. On the Friday, December 1, students will present their projects during Social Studies. You can view your child’s presentation by having them log into their google account. Students need to write their own essays at school, but they may do some additional research and note-taking at home using any kind of lined paper.
In science, students are super-excited to be learning about what affects the motion of an object. We also are addressing the Next Generation Science Standards by learning how energy is transferred by moving objects and other means. Students were surprised to learn that as we transitioned from ecosystems to motion and design, the life science and physical science were both connected to the idea of how energy is transferred. Check out the video on my Weebly blog page.
Thanks to all families that contributed to the delicious teacher appreciation lunch that we had today. Thank you for the kindness and caring we shared working together to improve students’ learning at our parent-teacher conferences last month. I hope that everyone has a good Thanksgiving holiday next weekend. Students can take any 2 days off from reading during the time between Wednesday and Sunday, but should read at least 20 minutes on the other 3 days.
