The students really enjoyed going to the book fair this week and checking out all of the new books. Thank you so much to all of the families who donated books to our classroom library. The students are really excited about reading the new books!
This week in reading we have continued to work on identifying the theme of our reading. Students learned that if they identify what the character has learned in the book they can generalize that to all people to identify the theme of the book. The students are also looking for evidence from the book that helps them to support their thinking of the theme. This is important work as we build our critical thinking skills.
In math this week we have been working on identifying factors and multiples. Students are using factor t-charts to help find the factors of a number. They are thinking about how multiples are like skip counting by a number. We also learned how to identify if a number was prime or composite. Next week we will be learning about how multiplication can be thought of as a comparison. For example Sarah has 3 books. Shelly has 4 times as many books. How many books does Shelly have?
Next week I look forward to meeting with you all during parent teacher conferences. Due to the conferences there will be half days on Wednesday, October 24th and Thursday, October 25th. Have a great weekend.
