Dear Fourth Grade Families,
It was so wonderful to see so many of you at our curriculum night. We are looking forward to a great year filled with a lot of growth. If you were unable to attend our curriculum night, there is a copy of our presentation on our grade 4 website. You can access the website here: http://besgrade4.rsd17.org/
This week in reading, students learned about the final two signposts. Please see the picture below. Students are reading books and looking for these signposts as they are opportunities to think deeply about what we are reading. Students are being expected to generate at least two post-it notes during our reading to leave tracks of their thinking. Next week we will start a new unit where we are working on interpreting characters.
This week in math we have been continuing to work on rounding using our rounding rap. Please ask your child to sing it for you! The chorus goes: Find your place, look next door. 5 or more you raise the score, four or less you let it rest, look to the right, put zeros in sight. It is sung to the tune of, “We will rock you”. Also, students learned how to use the standard algorithm for addition. Students practiced multiple regroupings when using standard algorithm. Students have also been busy completing the “Going Green” project where they are using their skills to solve a real world problem.
