Dear Fourth Grade Families,
It has been great to see the resilience of this group of students. It has been very hot and uncomfortable this week but they kept their focus and pushed through. We are very thankful for the cooler weather today. We have continued talking about developing a growth mindset and respecting mistakes as part of learning.
We have started our reading workshop looking at “signposts” in our fiction books. This work comes from the book, Notice and Note, Strategies for Close Reading, by Kylene Beers and Robert E. Probst. This is a great way for students to develop skills to help them become critical readers.
See the picture below to see the signposts we have worked on this week:
In math this week we have been working on understanding the place value system and how our place value system is based on groups of ten. For example 70 tens = 7 hundreds and 3 ten-thousands = 30 thousands. We have also been working on comparing large numbers using <, > or =. The students have done a great job learning the routines in math this week!
Have a great weekend!
